Biography

Vassilis Karakatsanis, Greek painter, was born in Athens in 1957. Today he lives and works in Greece. He continued his studies in painting at recognized institutions such as the Higher Schools of Fine Arts in Athens and Barcelona. In addition, he received grants from notable organizations such as the IKY, the Spanish Government and the Council of Europe to study the conservation of architectural monuments at the Centro Europeo in Venice. Since 1982, he has exhibited his works in various countries, such as Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Italy, Ecuador, Indonesia, Turkey, Denmark and Germany. His artwork is characterized by his unique visual style, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and observations of the world around him. He skillfully incorporates theatrical elements into his compositions and transforms everyday objects into integral parts of his work. Through the use of vivid colors and visual interventions, he explores the boundaries between reality and illusion. Over the years, he gradually incorporated mixed media and three-dimensional objects into his paintings, showcasing his evolving artistic vocabulary. In his thematic sections, such as Bags, Clothes, Rugs, Flags and Homes, he presents non-traditional materials incorporated into his works. It is evident that his motivation extends beyond the influences of New Realism or Pop Art, as he has a distinctly personal and experiential relationship with materials such as textiles and clothing. Notably, he has collaborated with renowned clothing designers such as Aslanis, Valente and Tsokli, which has allowed his work to transcend the boundaries of the canvas and come to life. Additionally, his paintings reflect his keen observation and documentation of our urban culture, particularly evident in his works since 1996, such as Party, Urban Materials, Urban Behaviors and Alcohol
