Biography

François Mascarello, a talented painter, sculptor, designer, and craftsman, thoughtfully explores various materials and artistic techniques to express the strength and delicacy of manual gestures in space. Through his expert handling of material limitations, he captures the emotions that are vital to each piece of art. His creations include intricately handcrafted oil-based wallpapers on kraft or Japanese paper, as well as screens, bas-reliefs, and stucco objects. These pieces are occasionally enhanced with elements such as leather, lacquer, or straw marquetry, drawing inspiration from decorative arts, illumination, and the earliest furniture crafted by Skara Brae over 5,000 years ago.François Mascarello collaborates with esteemed architects like Laura Gonzales, Chahan Minassian, and Hugo Toro, as well as prestigious luxury brands such as Cartier and Dior. His work encompasses creating decor for boutiques, frescoes for hotel lobbies and swimming pools, as well as designing lighting and rugs. He graciously balances his time between his artistic pursuits and his design studio.François Mascarello draws inspiration from his interactions with artisans, emphasizing that the term "art" originally referred simply to "a way of doing things," as noted by Paul Valéry.
