About Us

With an enduring and dynamic presence in the art scene spanning over four decades, Galerie Lefakis has established itself as one of Greece's most esteemed and cherished art institutions, both at home and abroad.

Throughout its journey, the gallery has been at the forefront of groundbreaking movements within the art world. As early as the 1980s, Galerie Lefakis played a pivotal role in decentralizing art in Greece, by opening spacious galleries outside the traditional center of Athens. This pioneering approach, coupled with collaborations with esteemed Greek artists such as Dimitris Mytaras, Alekos Fassianos, Pavlos Dionysopoulos, Sotiris Sorogas, Costas Varotsos, and others, brought Contemporary Greek art into the everyday lives of the general public.

Recognizing the importance of international engagement, Galerie Lefakis ventured overseas in the early 1990s, becoming one of the first Greek galleries to host successful exhibitions and auctions of artworks in Cyprus and London. This strategic move not only promoted Contemporary Greek art in Cyprus but also fostered the growth of a new art-loving audience abroad, who have since been steadfast supporters.

Over the course of these four decades, Galerie Lefakis has evolved and expanded, establishing new art spaces in Kifissia, Glyfada, Psychiko, and Nicosia. This growth has been accompanied by the loyalty of an ever-expanding clientele, who continue to accompany the gallery on each new venture.

More recently, in 2019, the third generation of the Lefakis family embarked on a mission to showcase Greek artists to an international audience and collaborate with renowned international visual artists. As a result, they inaugurated their first gallery in Saint Paul de Vence, situated in the artistic hub of the South of France, renowned for hosting over 50 galleries from around the world and attracting an international clientele. The success of their first year led to the opening of a second gallery in the same prestigious location.

In 2022, Galerie Lefakis continued its international expansion, unveiling a new art space in Brussels, further solidifying its presence in international art circles. This endeavor is driven by the ambition to promote Greek art to a wider audience and engage with the global artistic community. In a demanding art market, Galerie Lefakis systematically promotes great Greek artists both in Greece and abroad. In this context, Galerie Lefakis is making a strong comeback to Cyprus, opening its new art space in Nicosia in December 2023.

Galerie Lefakis extends heartfelt gratitude to all its partners for their unwavering trust and cooperation. Additionally, the gallery expresses profound appreciation to its collectors and art enthusiasts whose steadfast support serves as the driving force behind their leadership in the Greek and European art scene.
